¨What the heck?¨

What started a year ago as an impulsive desire to steal away to Mexico with nothing but an old mountain bike and $300 slowly fomented to a concrete idea as time progressed. After months of thorough research and browsing the internet for stories of similar long distance bike travelers, I soon realized that traveling South America by bike was actually a popular way to experience the continent....and really really safe! I promise.

Long ago, amigos Evan and Jack embarked on a bicycle journey across the Pacific Northwest, starting in Vancouver BC and hauling ass all the way back to the Bay. Their experience--from what I gathered--was damp, meloncholy, marred with mechanical problems, and involved a few close encounters with Oregon´s gumpish populace and possibly a juggalo. Despite all this, the two fellows recalled their months on the road with a sense of longing, as if these terrible experiences were some of the best moments of their lives.

Needless to say, their adventurous seed found it´s way into my tubes, for I was smitten with their tales of sorrow and woe and soon found myself building a bike in preparation for my own journey, but since I wanted to avoid any encounters with back country varnish shamans and clown gatherings, it was only reasonable that I chose South America as a safe alternative to the dangerous roads of the motherland. So here I am, and life is good.
